To help other developers interested in starting their MuleSoft certification journey, Priyanka has created a two-part blog series sharing best practices to help guide developers as they explore MuleSoft training and how to become a certified MuleSoft Developer.
My journey with MuleSoft began while I was still in college — getting my undergraduate degree to become a junior software engineer. At the time, the demand for MuleSoft was quickly growing and I thought it would be beneficial for my career to become a MuleSoft certified developer. This led me to complete the self-paced MuleSoft training — and before I had even graduated — I was already getting calls from companies that were looking to hire me as a MuleSoft developer.
Shortly after, I won a voucher for a free certification exam at a MuleSoft Meetup. Within a month of completing my certification, I had two job offers to become a MuleSoft developer. Demand for MuleSoft developers has only grown since.
People often ask me how they can get started with MuleSoft. My brother even attended a MuleSoft meetup with me and for the entire car ride home he asked me question after question about my MuleSoft training and certification experience. That same night, he created an account on MuleSoft’s training website and signed up for a free self-paced course! This made me want to help others get started on their path to certification. I hope these two posts help you begin your journey in becoming a Mulesoft Certified Developer.
Getting started
As a developer, it is important to constantly learn new things and focus on the challenges integration can solve. MuleSoft training has learning materials for everyone — whether you are a developer, an architect, or an IT professional. Hopefully, with these extra resources and tips for gaining experience, you’ll feel confident in starting your MuleSoft Certification journey.
Self-paced courses
You can enroll and sign up for a free self-paced Anypoint Platform Development: Fundamental (Mule 4) course. This course provides you with the necessary hands-on experience and teaches you the basics. I enrolled in this course and studied the modules several times. I was able to teach myself more than I had expected and even did some implementation on my own.
Instructor-led courses
Anypoint Platform Development: Fundamental (Mule 4) is also offered as a five-day course led by an instructor and includes a certification voucher for the exam. I would suggest that you go through self-paced training, test yourself, and then decide if an instructor-led course would be more helpful. I took this instructor-led course, and the trainer was friendly, knowledgeable, and patiently handled all queries. I took this training for free after winning a voucher at a MuleSoft meetup!
Self-assessment quiz and do-it-yourself (DIY) exercises
This exam preparation offers a 60+ question self-assessment quiz and 10+ exercises to test your knowledge. The questions in these exercises are similar to the questions on the certification exam. I used these exercises to test myself and recommend that you create a separate sheet to gather the quiz questions and solve them without looking at the answers. Everything I learned through these exercises was super practical and easy to access — and never boring! You keep learning new things without spending too much time reading.
