Connectivity. It’s the cornerstone of deriving all you need from your data, and it’s what makes automation and leveraging AI possible. Our marquee MuleSoft event, Connect:AI, is all about connectivity, but it’s also about connecting. At the end of June, 253 attendees came together in New York City to get a peek at how MuleSoft is innovating and the impact of AI on integration, automation, and API management.
Showcasing innovation: AI-powered Composability and AsyncAPI
Hosted by MuleSoft CRO, Eric Eyken-Sluyters and Param Kahlon, GM Integration and Automation, MuleSoft unveiled innovations at this year’s Connect:AI, including AI-powered Composability and AsyncAPI Support (Beta) for event-driven architectures.
AI-Powered Composability
As AI becomes increasingly essential, the expectation is that AI capabilities will be incorporated across existing applications. To get the most out of AI, it must be seamlessly integrated into existing applications and be available within the natural flow of work.
AI-Powered Composability enables organizations to blend AI methodologies with practical tools, enabling developers and business teams to integrate AI into applications and workflows using modular building blocks. This helps them to:
- Build a future-ready foundation to seamlessly connect any system or large language model (LLM) to create AI-powered customer experiences
- Enhance productivity utilizing intelligent tools that empower developers and business teams to accelerate productivity through AI-driven integration and automation solutions
- Secure AI-driven experiences with robust governance and access controls to ensure trusted AI architectures and applications
- Enable AI agent actions to drive data-driven responses and actions in external systems using natural language prompts
Async API support
MuleSoft announced open beta for AsyncAPI support in Anypoint Platform to facilitate the adoption of event-driven architectures (EDAs).
This enables businesses to develop seamless end-to-end integrations for event-driven applications. This allows organizations to:
- Efficiently process and respond to real-time events
- Simplify the integration of real-time customer interactions across various applications and systems
- Reduces the complexity of connecting with popular event brokers and message queues
Event-driven architectures (EDAs) can unlock innovative AI use cases by enabling real-time communication in systems that handle dynamic data sets, such as predictive maintenance, dynamic pricing, or fraud detection.
With 64% of consumers expecting companies to interact with them in real time, it’s critical for organizations to develop faster communication methods between applications to meet this demand. Event-aware applications are essential in achieving this.
Delivering a future-looking vision for MuleSoft
Connect:AI balanced MuleSoft product announcements and thought-provoking conversations about the role of AI in integration, automation, and API management.
Keynote: Experience the Future of Autonomous AI in the Enterprise
While predictive AI remains the foundation of most AI applications today, recent advancements in large language models (LLMs) have introduced powerful tools like ChatGPT and Claude, as well as enterprise solutions such as copilots and prompt builders.
Connect:AI featured a visionary demo from Salesforce Futures showcasing autonomous multi-agent systems, self-integrating apps, and securing cross-enterprise AI architectures.
These innovations allow users to simply “tell the computer what they want” and receive responsive, intelligent outputs. However, as we integrate these generative AI capabilities, a new wave is emerging: autonomous agents. Discover our three predictions for the future of autonomous AI agents to learn more.
The LLMs we rely on today are evolving into agents with specialized skills, capable of independently performing tasks to achieve specific goals without needing direct instructions from users.
MuleSoft customers are accustomed to the efficiency and speed that come with modular, reusable components. And when new technologies arise, we uncover new ways to combine these technologies, unlocking even greater potential.
Autonomous agents will soon become another digital building block in the IT ecosystem, interacting directly with current integrations and automations, as well as with each other, to revolutionize the way work is done.
Customer deep dive: PenFed Credit Union
In building an AI-enabled organization, there are myriad hurdles that need to be overcome. From executive buy-in to budget sourcing, it’s a journey that PenFed Credit Union knows well. But incorporating AI into the business is now an expectation. It’s being used to increase productivity, relieve IT and service teams of redundant tasks and deliver a better customer experience.
PenFed CIO, Shree Reddy, and Pari Bose, Head of Digital Banking at PenFed discussed the exceptional member experience thanks to AI, live chat, and self-service support options.
Today, their service agents have a 360-degree view of member data so they can work more efficiently and deliver service that members love. Since expanding its communication channels with chat, PenFed’s call center has reduced its average speed to answer by an entire minute to less than 60 seconds. It has done all this while increasing membership by 31%.
Endnote panel: Leading in the AI era
Understanding how others have shifted as they incorporate AI into the business is so helpful in building a roadmap for success. The New York event concluded with a panel discussion led by Salesforce CIO, Juan Perez, where executives from NVIDIA, Build-A-Bear, and KPMG shared their perspectives on leading in the era of AI. Discussion topics included:
- The biggest barriers for organizations in leveraging AI
- Balancing the need to move quickly with AI while taking enough time to be thoughtful about how to approach AI as it is incorporated into business processes
- Misconceptions around generative AI
- Ways in which the panelists are making the most of your current investments – MuleSoft and Salesforce included – to really get the most out of AI
As IT teams are increasingly being asked to incorporate AI into all areas of the business, it’s a topical conversation that will continue as AI adoption grows. Todd Lohr, Leader of US Technology Consulting at KPMG, emphasized the rapid pace of AI advancement, saying: “The progression with AI will be measured in days, not weeks or months.”
