By now, you’ve probably heard of Agentforce, Salesforce’s collection of assistive and autonomous AI Agent use cases. Agentforce can reason, plan, and act across your business based on user inputs and specific contexts, massively increasing efficiency. They span across the Salesforce platform, assisting with CRM data retrieval, automating order management logistics, or streamlining claims processes among many other use cases.

A majority of these Agent actions and processes can be fulfilled entirely within the Salesforce ecosystem thanks to the breadth and flexibility of the Customer 360.

We understand that Salesforce customers also operate applications outside of our ecosystem, and these external tools should be able to play a critical part in your agentic strategy too.

MuleSoft is far and away the best tool to achieve this. It is, however, going to require some collaboration; MuleSoft Developers are going to have to work hand-in-hand with Salesforce Admins to understand the use cases being established for Agentforce, how third party applications fit into that scope and generate the appropriate Agentforce API assets to make these use cases a reality.

Agentforce is bringing MuleSoft Developers and Salesforce Admins closer than ever, and that’s why we’re happy to announce the general availability of MuleSoft for Agentforce: Topic Center – a tool that revolutionizes the utilization of APIs, as well as supporting the expanded relationship between Muleys and Admins as we move further into the Agentic age.

What is MuleSoft for Agentforce: Topic Center?

Before diving into MuleSoft for Agentforce: Topic Center, first we need to establish what a Topic is.

Topics serve as a method to bundle a series of actions along with instructions on how Agentforce should utilize them.

These Topics can perform actions both within and outside the Salesforce environment. Agentforce operates with a predefined set of actions and guidelines. When you extend the Agent’s capabilities to include third-party applications, it’s crucial to provide clear instructions on how it should behave to achieve specific outcomes.

This is where a Topic comes into play. It is a curated set of actions and instructions that define what an Agent can do across external systems. This ensures that as you enhance your Agent’s functionality, it is done in a controlled and deliberate manner.

While Topics can be created directly in Agent Builder, it can be much more impactful to build them with MuleSoft for Agentforce: Topic Center. This is a set of tools that stretches across the entire API lifecycle, from design through to the connection, consumption and management of APIs assets by Agentforce.

It starts in Anypoint Code Builder (ACB) where MuleSoft Developers can generate Agentforce Topics as part of the API design phase or from their existing MuleSoft APIs. The Topic generation process is done via natural language and the parameters will be driven by the use cases requirements delivered to the Developer from the Salesforce Admins building out the Agentforce use cases.

The next step is to mount the API into Anypoint Exchange, applying appropriate governance, security, access controls and policies to the API that will be used to ensure that Agentforce utilizes the API in an appropriate manner.

Once in Anypoint Exchange, this API – and the Agent Topics contained within – can be made accessible to the Anypoint Admin thanks to another new product, MuleSoft for Agentforce: API Catalog, a MuleSoft-powered tool within Salesforce that can host all of your Salesforce, Herkou, MuleSoft and third-party APIs in a single work area for use across Apex, Data Cloud, Flow and Agentforce.

The outcome of this process is a grab and go experience for the Salesforce Admin building out their use case within Agent Builder. They’ll be able to assign MuleSoft Topics to Agentforce with confidence knowing that, from the initial design through to API Management and the Topic being posted onto the API Catalog, what they’re empowering Agentforce with has gone through all the necessary design decisions and governance within MuleSoft in order to to act in third-party systems effectively.

What’s next for MuleSoft for Agentforce: Topic Center?

MuleSoft for Agentforce: Topic Center is now generally available. MuleSoft Developers can access the design experience in Anypoint Code Builder and mount their API Topics into Agentforce via the API Catalog right now.

We’re currently developing additional capabilities for MuleSoft for Agentforce: Topic Center, including testing Agentforce responses as part of the Topic design process within Anypoint Code Builder. We also intend to create a monitoring experience so that our customers are able to easily understand how Agentforce is utilizing their API assets, as well as more traditional health monitoring to support Agentforce. These features will be released later in 2025.

MuleSoft for Agentforce isn’t just a single tool, but a solution that spans across both MuleSoft and Salesforce, designed to support the foundation of actionable AI. It’s a prospect that’s already exciting our customers:

“To truly empower our agents, it’s essential that Agentforce is grounded in the data from our core business systems, securely integrates and scales with platforms like Salesforce, and connects seamlessly to our broader IT infrastructure. By giving agents real-time access to reliable data, we enable data-driven actions at every stage of agentic workflows. With MuleSoft for Agentforce, data from MuleSoft APIs can significantly enhance agent capabilities and elevate customer experiences.”
