For the first time in over two years, MuleSoft CONNECT was hosted live in-person this past June. Being able to meet face-to-face with our customers, colleagues, and partners took the experience to the next level, so we couldn’t help but reflect upon the incredible progress our organization has made to support our customers’ top integration use cases in the healthcare and life sciences industries.
Thinking back to the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, our portfolio of solutions were emerging and our focus had been on developing horizontal solutions like our MuleSoft Accelerator for Salesforce Clouds. When we recognized the unprecedented challenges facing our healthcare customers, we quickly shifted our efforts toward developing capabilities that would help them respond to the crisis at hand.
Innovation when we needed it most
The first use case of our MuleSoft Accelerator for Healthcare was simple yet powerful – surfacing critical patient and lab information from the EMR vendor, Epic into Salesforce Health Cloud. This integration equipped contact center agents with the information they needed to provide support and assurance to their patients and members. With the influx of calls being made to both healthcare payers and providers, this was a key solution to prevent employee burnout and maintain high quality experiences for patients and members.
Many tech organizations would have considered stopping there, but I’m proud that MuleSoft recognized there was more work to be done to make MuleSoft and Anypoint Platform a true enabler of interoperability. This journey continued through our investment to bring all 145 FHIR R4 resources into Anypoint Exchange to allow healthcare organizations to accelerate their development of FHIR APIs for both regulatory and non-regulatory use cases.
From there, we identified other processes in the healthcare space that could be API-enabled to drive automation and efficiency, including appointment scheduling, benefits and eligibility verification, and prior authorization.
These releases are just the beginning. We’re consistently building and launching more, including our new MuleSoft Accelerator for Life Sciences which was released in April 2022.
Accelerating change for healthcare patients and employees
As we reflect on the past two years, we think back to all the customers we’ve worked with who have been able to save precious time that directly impacts patient outcomes by using our assets and reference architectures to accelerate the implementation of their key business initiatives.
Nebraska Medicine was one such customer that I was fortunate enough to speak alongside at HIMSS 22 in Orlando. They shared their experiences with MuleSoft, our Accelerator for Healthcare, and how they’re working with MuleSoft and Salesforce across their clinical and non-clinical systems. They made it clear how much their investment has positively impacted their organization and offered words of advice for others looking to take a similar approach.
The future of MuleSoft in healthcare and life sciences
As MuleSoft grows, and our work with Salesforce, Slack, and Tableau takes healthcare and life sciences technology to the next level, we recognize there is no shortage of difficult challenges to solve. We are committed to investing further to provide our customers with pre-built tooling that enables them to both integrate with legacy systems and standards (like HL7 v2 and C-CDA), while also providing a path to modernize their ecosystems and build a more modern, patient-centric healthcare system for us all.
We’d love to hear from you and your stories using MuleSoft to fuel transformation, let us know what you’ve been able to achieve with the Accelerators or any feedback you may have.
