To continue our What It Means to be a Muley series, we have the pleasure of sharing MuleSoft Ambassador Myra Wilson’s story! Myra is an extremely accomplished Salesforce Solutions Architect for Trimble and resident hyperautomation specialist. She has previously discussed how MuleSoft automation empowered her career advancement, and now we asked her to share more about her MuleSoft journey to inspire others!

Myra Wilson‘s MuleSoft journey

In August 2021, Myra didn’t realize that a bad experience would lead to some great moments in her career. Her MuleSoft journey stems from an ERP integration mishap that resulted in her company implementing MuleSoft Composer.

“To get started with MuleSoft, I leveraged Trailhead, my dedicated implementation team, and hands-on trial and error when building my first flows. I was able to successfully implement my project within 90 days! This made the day-to-day operations of my sales and finance teams much easier with the automations I was able to implement between the two systems.”

From that point forward, Myra felt it was important to share her experience with the MuleSoft Community. Through various MuleSoft Meetup sessions, webinars, and articles, Myra was able to show the power of being a Salesforce Administrator and how she “was able to save the day” for her company with MuleSoft Composer.

Throughout 2022, Myra worked closely with MuleSoft Leaders in the community, providing feedback and enhancement recommendations while sharing knowledge she had gained, ultimately leading to an invitation to become a MuleSoft Ambassador in 2023.

“In April 2022, I was promoted to a Salesforce Solution Architect at my organization. I was joining the digital transformation team and our first project was rolling 34 Salesforce instances into one super org. This was an overwhelming but cool challenge, and I was ready to move into my new position. I was tasked with training a junior Salesforce Admin to take over my old position. She became my first mentee. As she learned the Salesforce basics through Trailhead and hands-on projects, I trained her on customizations per our business processes, which also included MuleSoft Composer.

I had recently learned and implemented the tool myself less than a year prior, and here I was training someone else how to maintain and create new flows. I feel like this experience greatly contributed to me being a MuleSoft Ambassador. Along with this project, I continued to participate in multiple conferences across the country, contributing to MuleSoft channels. Additionally, I coached another mentee via the MuleSoft Community Mentor program.”
“One of my goals as I began my journey was to increase my presence on social platforms like LinkedIn. People began recognizing me more online, and this made me want to share my contributions with my connections, but also to open myself up for networking, questions, or mentoring. In August 2023, I opened my inbox and I had a message from Gillian Bruce, former admin evangelist. She told me there was an opportunity for me at Dreamforce and that she wanted us to meet to discuss it more. Soon thereafter, Gillian, Lisa Dick, and I met, and I was invited to speak during the Salesforce Admin Dreamforce 2023 keynote. I was pretty speechless when they told me, but I didn’t think twice before accepting their offer!”

By September 2023, Myra took the main stage at Dreamforce and did a demo on MuleSoft Composer in front of an audience of 1700 people.

“Hearing feedback from my peers that my presence on stage inspired them was a full circle moment for me. I remember my first Dreamforce in 2016 and wondering how the presenters got to where they were. That same year, I gained another mentee and sat on panels to discuss the importance of women in technology.”

Myra has continued to spread the word and create a brand for herself as a go-getter in the MuleSoft Community and an integral part of the digital transformation team at her organization. She still keeps in touch with her mentees and checks in with them on a regular basis. Myra has also joined the leadership team for a Salesforce Dreamin’ Conference and recently started an Apex coding bootcamp.

“I am so grateful for the path my career took following the implementation of MuleSoft Composer, and I feel gratified by my contributions to those who are inspired by journeys of ‘accidental admins’ like me. These real-life experiences resonate with our Community, as they shine light on a potential career path for themselves as you have achieved. I am excited for the future of AI and how it will continue to shape and mold how we as tech professionals navigate through our daily roles and responsibilities. I plan to continue to be an advocate for women in tech and people who want to take up space in the tech industry.”
