If you asked Derek Asbun five years ago what his career would look like today, it would probably be anything but a Channel Account Manager. After university, Derek played professional rugby before embarking on a product management career—without any computer science experience.
Fortunately, his interviewer at MuleSoft saw his potential and a drive, both of which quickly mapped to Account Development. In just three years, Derek moved up in the Account Development team and became part of the Channels & Alliances team––managing global partners that drive major growth for the company. He even moved to a new city, from our San Francisco HQ to a brand new office in New York.
Derek credits MuleSoft’s fast growth and open culture to his career development. A growing company equates to more opportunities to learn and develop, and a transparent culture with accessible leadership enables Muleys to learn a ton from everyone around them. Hear more from Derek:
“Everybody who gets hired at MuleSoft has done something astounding. You may not find out the first time you speak to them, but there are some really really talented and amazing people that you learn from every day. It’s my favorite thing, to be surrounded by people who have already been tremendously successful in other aspects of their life—which can often be very intimidating. But we have a level of openness in our culture that allows you to have the ability to work with everybody on an even level and really learn from them.”
